
About San Francisco History Museum
The 6,000 square foot San Francisco History Museum is on the top floor of a building which boasts a SF Visitor Information Center and Union Square’s largest restaurant. This museum highlights many SF related exhibits such as authentic Alcatraz Jail Cells with Fred Pardini’s (formerly of the SF Examiner) photos of the last day Alcatraz was a prison, The Gold Rush, Emperor Norton in Wax courtesy of Rodney Fong of the Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf. Other displays include: The Barbary Coast (courtesy of Tim Evans), The Panama Pacific International Exposition, courtesy of Donna Ewald Huggins, Mission Dolores courtesy of Andrew Galvan and the Mission, the 1906 Earthquake collection of Gladys and Richard Hansen. Guests will see The Walt Disney Family Museum room as well as the LGBT History Room featuring Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, Finochio’s and Merv Griffin. Ghirardelli Chocolate has created an amazing salute to 160 years of business in the Bay Area. Famed SF photographer Scotty Morris will display many of his SF photographs and award-winning pieces including Mother Teresa, Presidents Reagan and Clinton, Queen Elizabeth, Elizabeth Taylor and John Kennedy, Jr. to name a few. Local collector Barry Barsamian is loaning many of his Hollywood Legends clothing and memorabilia with a San Francisco connection: Natalie Wood, Carol Channing, Shirley Temple Black, Barbara Eden, Jane Russell, Mike Connors, Lucille Ball and Judy Garland. Man J. Kim will be displaying his massive vintage radio collection. Steve Squires is sharing his slot machines because they were invented in SF. A rare collection of original composition Shirley Temple dolls will be on display.
Mrs. Jack LaLanne (Elaine LaLanne) has loaned one of Jack’s jumpsuits from his famed TV show plus many wonderful vintage visuals. Kathryn Crosby, (Mrs. Bing Crosby), has loaned two of Bing’s wooden golf clubs and his favorite hat. Mrs. Herb Caen (Ann Caen) has given Barry one of Herb’s portable typewriters and one of his hats.
